When in Toronto we recommend a visit to The Distillery Historic District, a top tourist attraction in Canada. The city converted this historic site in 2003 into Toronto’s hottest place to eat, shop and relax.

The Distillery Historic District has the best preserved and the largest collection of Victorian Industrial Architecture in North America. It shows the colorful immigrants’ stories of triumph and tragedy in Toronto. James Worts and his brother-in-law William Gooderham started a grist mill in 1831. When James Worts committed suicide after the death of his wife, Gooderham continued and partnered with Worts’ oldest son.

By 1837, Gooderham added a distillery and produced his first whisky. In 1990, the distillery closed after 153 years of continuous production. It became the site for film production until 2003.

Today you can visit over 70 cultural and retail establishments in the restored red brick, Victorian-era buildings. This pedestrian-only village is a short walk from downtown Toronto. Find out more at
